Note: The Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) is required for successful execution of the ABAQUS Student Editions.
► ABAQUS Student Edition 2020 (latest release): This version installs this package automatically and no additional steps are required.
► ABAQUS Student Edition 2019: This release does not install this package automatically, and the user must download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) using this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523. Failure to install this package will produce the following fatal runtime error with Abaqus 2019 Student Edition: 'ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.'

How To Get Solidworks Student License
Students in the College of Engineering can download the SolidWorks SPE by filling out a simple webform.
Please connect to the VPN, then log in with your COE (not NUnet) username and password on this page for instructions and to get your activation code.
You must use the Northeastern University VPN to view the web form if you are off-campus.
For Northeastern Students from Colleges other than COE
Northeastern students outside of COE can now obtain SolidWorks SPE through the ITS Help Desk.
Students should follow a three-step process to obtain directions:

My SPE installation is not working correctly
Make sure that you have followed the instructions provided carefully.
Also note that if you have previously installed a SPE (or older SEK) on your computer, the old installation must be completely removed before attempting the new installation to avoid conflicts.
If you are a COE student still having issues, send email to help@coe.neu.edu with screenshots of any errors you see and your availability for a troubleshooting session (typically conducted via Teams).
If you are not a COE student, and are still having issues, send email to help@northeastern.edu with as much detail as possible, and one of the ITS Help Desk staff will do their best to assist you.
Can I run SolidWorks on my Mac or Linux PC?
SolidWorks runs on Windows only (not Mac or Linux), sorry.
To install the SolidWorks SPE locally on your own Mac or Linux computer, you can get VMware Fusion for Mac, or VMware Workstation for Linux, for free through the MyNortheastern Portal -- it will allow you to run Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac or Linux PC. Then you can install SolidWorks in your virtual machine as described above.
How can I get access to SolidWorks if I cannot install it on my computer?
COE students can use the COE VLAB to run SolidWorks from any computer or tablet. Please see the COE VLAB page for instructions.
ITS also provides SolidWorks through their Windows Virtual Desktop (VDI) environment. For non-COE students who cannot install on their own computer, this is likely the best choice. You can find more information on this through the public service portal by searching for 'Windows Virtual Desktop'
